The operator you book with
We quote a fixed price before you book, we take the payment, and we are the party you contract with from the moment you do. Who licenses us, and who drives, are on this page rather than on request.

2Why a London service is licensed in Hertfordshire
Our operator licence, our chauffeurs' licences and our cars' licences all come from Hertsmere Borough Council, which is what the law asks for: the three must match. A journey booked with us can then begin or end anywhere in England and Wales, which is why a Hertfordshire licence covers a Heathrow pickup.
It is a fair question and silence would look like an answer, so: the address we operate from is in Hertfordshire, the work is in London, and the law is written to allow exactly that. What it does not allow is a mixture — we cannot send you a car or a chauffeur licensed by anybody else, and conditions 17a and 20 of our licence say so in terms.
3What the council checks before anybody drives
These are facts about the licence a chauffeur has to hold, not promises of our own. The council grants it or it does not.
- Every chauffeur holds a private hire driver licence from Hertsmere Borough Council, which is granted only after an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
- The council requires a medical to the DVLA Group 2 standard, the standard asked of lorry and bus drivers.
- Each driver has passed the council's knowledge test, which is taken in English.
- We re-check every licence at renewal and record who checked it and when.
On top of the licence: the car holds a current private hire vehicle licence and insurance for hire and reward naming that car, and anybody who takes or dispatches a booking is on a staff register with a current basic criminal record check, which conditions 41 to 44 require of us.
How to be sure you are getting into the right car, including why an executive car usually carries no plate on the back.
4Our own chauffeurs, and our partner operators
A booking is carried out in one of three ways. We use all three, and would rather say so than let you assume every car is ours.
- Chauffeurs who work for us
- Dispatched by us, driving under our own operator licence.
- Self-employed chauffeurs
- Working under our licence, checked by us in the same way and recorded the same way as our own.
- Partner operators
- Another company holding its own private hire operator licence from its own authority, carrying the booking for us.
When a partner carries your booking you are told. Conditions 10 to 12 of our licence set out how: we record who we passed it to before the car is sent, we have to satisfy ourselves that they are correctly licensed and insured, and we have to tell you we have done it, give you their details, and confirm that carrying out your booking is still our responsibility. Both licence numbers go on the booking record, which is what makes a complaint traceable to the right company.
What does not change is who you are dealing with. We accept the booking, we hold the contract with you as principal, we take the payment and we pay the chauffeur. If something goes wrong it is us you call, and we do not pass you to somebody else.
5How we price, and what we never do
One fixed price per class of car, worked out before you book, with the congestion charge, the emission charges, the tolls, the airport fees and your free waiting already inside it. Anything optional, such as a child seat or an extra stop, is chosen before you see the price, so the price you see is the final one.
If we cannot price a route automatically we say so and offer to price it on the telephone, rather than show a number we are not confident in. The cancellation policy and the terms are versioned, and each booking records the versions it was made under.
6Where these facts come from
Every condition number on this page and in our policies was read from one of these two documents, on the date shown. If one of them changes, the pages change with it.
